When we read our newspapers or turn on the TV these days we are frequently bombarded with messages about climate change or the need to protect the environment now and for future generations. Of course, we'd all like to do something to help but don't you sometimes find it difficult to find the time to do even the simplest things or to convince the rest of the family to "buy in." Yes, "you do have the power, Bob" but as we know only too well, "having the power" doesn't always translate into action.

Probably not unless you happen to trip over a crack in the sidewalk or are sitting in traffic breathing in the fumes from the truck in front of you! You might be surprised to know, then ,that more and more evidence is emerging which suggests that the built environment – our homes, schools, where we work, our parks , business areas, roads etc – influences our health as much as vaccines and that the way in which cities and towns are designed and constructed can have significant public health consequences.
